4 – 5 Grams is a Good Range for Most But There are Many Variables
IMPORTANT: This article is in regards to kratom leaf powder NOT kratom extract. Kratom Freak advises against taking kratom extract or buying kratom from head shops or smoke shops. Please use caution and always use a Trusted vendor.
How much kratom powder is right for you? This is a question not easily answered, but when looking at the experiences of thousands of kratom users, we can certainly lay out the ground work. Similar to most pain medications, the effects of kratom will last about 4 hours when taken in the correct dose. There are a lot of variables to all of this, including body type, weight, tolerance, and many more. To be safe, we recommend that all new kratom users start on the lower end of the spectrum and work their way up. You can always take more next time if you don’t get your desired effects. It took me about 7 tries to find the right dosage for me (5 Grams of Bali). A good rule of thumb is to wait 8 hours between kratom doses when experimenting like this.
After studying hundreds of kratom users’ dosage experiences, the average amount for a beginner is 3 grams. On an empty stomach, the effects usually take hold after 30 minutes. If you have eaten recently, it can take upwards of an hour to feel the effects. (REMEMBER: Even if you feel like it’s not working, you should still wait 8 hours before taking another dose.) Having a full stomach or taking capsules can delay the effects of the herb. But if you really think you just didn’t take enough, still wait 8 hours before dusting yourself off and trying again.
Variable 1: Type of Strain
In addition to your experience with the plant, one variable in this scenario is the type of kratom you’re taking. Every kratom strain is different than the last and will have different effects at different dosage levels. For example, a Green Malaysian kratom will likely have an overall sedating and euphoric effect, whereas a strain like Maeng Da kratom will act as more of a stimulant. And those individual strains may have different effects based on how much you take of them. There is no one size fits all. Research your chosen strain before taking it and don’t be afraid to ask your vendor questions about it.
Variable 2: Your Personal Baseline Dosage
It’s best to define a solid baseline to explain this next variable. For me, my baseline (the average dosage I usually take) is 5 grams of Bali Leaf. Ready for the curve-ball? With kratom, going either above or below your personal baseline will have drastically different outcomes. Taking less will give you more stimulating effects, while taking more than your personal baseline will give you more sedative effects. So if my baseline is 5 grams normally, and instead of 5 grams, I take 2 grams, I am likely to feel stimulated and awake. Going the other way, if I take 7 grams, I should expect to be very sedated. Keep this in mind when fine tuning your dosage and finding your baseline.
Kratom Leaf Powder Dosage Guidelines:
As always, please keep in mind that everyone’s bodies react differently to kratom. What works for one person will not work for everyone, which is why we suggest taking your time when finding the right dosage.
2 – 3 grams = Good for Beginners or for kratom vets looking for more stimulation.
4 – 5 grams = A Good Baseline for most people, great for pain relief and relaxation.
6 – 8 grams = A Strong Dose, likely to have sedative effects and might be too much for some users.
8+ grams = Very Strong Dose, very sedating and likely too much, not recommended.
Keep in mind: whenever we talk about kratom we are talking about leaf powder, never extracts. Everyone is different and everyone’s dosage will vary. This is why we urge you to take it slow when discovering kratom. While there is no known case of anyone overdosing on kratom alone, you can definitely get very ill and vomit from taking too much kratom. DO NOT start with high doses, or you’ll likely have a very bad time.
